SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ An Air Force nurse in San Antonio is charged with murder after three terminally ill patients received deadly doses of medication.
Capt. Michael Fontana was formally charged with deliberately giving three Wilford Hall Medical Center patients lethal amounts of drugs.
The intensive care nurse is also facing a charge of conduct unbecoming an officer for allegedly changing a medical document.
An Article 32 hearing, the military equivalent to a grand jury proceeding, is pending.
A call to Fontana’s home wasn’t immediately returned Tuesday.
The Air Force began investigating in August after another staffer discovered irregularities.
Fontana was removed from duty, but continues to work in the hospital. He’s not allowed contact with patients or records.
Fontana, who previously worked as an EMT in Austin, has been in the Air Force since 2006. He served in Iraq in 2007.
