Saturday Morning Crash on George Bush Drive Kills Two

College Station Police are investigating a one vehicle crash early Saturday morning on George Bush Drive near the presidential library that killed two people.

Police identified the driver as 20 year old Luca Bonasera of College Station and the passenger as 19 year old Jade Marie Vasquez of Bryan.

The mishap was found by College Station firefighters returning from a call Saturday morning shortly before 4 a.m., when they saw the lights of a car in a deep ditch along George Bush Drive near the intersection of Barbara Bush Drive.

Investigators believe the eastbound driver lost control, which led to the car hitting the curb and coming to rest in the south ditch.

As of Saturday afternoon investigators were unsure as to whether or not the car rolled after striking the curb.

Bonasera and Vasquez were wearing seat belts.

The police department’s crash reconstruction unit will return to the scene Monday morning between 6:30 and 10:30. Traffic on George Bush Drive in the area of the intersection with Barbara Bush Drive will be reduced to one lane in each direction.  Delays are expected and state law requires drivers to slow down at least 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit.
