Fleeing Suspect Kills D-FW Motorist

GARLAND, Texas (AP) _ A motorist is dead after a car driven by a man fleeing police slammed into his pickup truck in suburban Dallas.

A Garland police statement says the incident happened about 4:30 a.m. Monday when a woman reported a disturbance involving her former boyfriend. Police found a car with a man slumped over the steering wheel in front of the woman’s home. Several beer cans were on the seat next to him.

Confronted by police, the man sped off, leading to a police chase that ended when the speeding car ran a red light and slammed broadside into the pickup truck, ejecting its driver.

Killed was 52-year-old Solomon Asfaw of Garland. The suspect, 24-year-old Jesus Gutierrez Eliasar, was hospitalized in critical condition, charged with aggravated assault, murder and terroristic threat.
