BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) _ The man police say opened fire outside a Texas courthouse two weeks ago has been charged with murder.
An indictment returned Thursday by a grand jury in Jefferson County also charged 41-year-old Bartholomew Granger with three counts of attempted capital murder, four counts of kidnapping and a single count of aggravated assault.
Eight of the charges carry maximum sentences of life in prison.
Police say the rampage occurred while Bartholomew was on trial for sexually assaulting his daughter. He’s accused of killing an elderly woman and wounding three others, including his accuser and her mother.
The dead woman, 79-year-old Minnie Sebolt of Deweyville, has been described as an innocent bystander.
Bartholomew is being held in the county jail on $4 million bond. Jail records do not list an attorney.
