Fatal Accident in Robertson County Kills Three

A two-vehicle crash that backed up Highway 6 traffic for several hours between Bryan and Hearne Thursday killed three people and injured two.

Both north and southbound traffic lanes were closed following the accident at about 12:40 p.m. The highway wasn’t fully reopened until about 7 p.m.

State troopers say James Darwin Jones of Bryan was southbound near the Old Bryan Highway when he lost control of his Toyota pickup, spun into oncoming traffic, and was hit by an 18-wheeler.

Jones, 75, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two of his passengers, 20-year-old Kenneth Michael Pecina and five-year-old Trey Michael Pecina of Franklin, also died.

A fourth passenger, 24-year-old Mary Nikole Hamilton of Fort Stockton, was recovering at St. Joseph in Bryan.

The truck driver, 44-year-old Armando Sanchez-Pulido of Bryan, was treated and released at St. Joseph in Bryan.

Three people were killed Thursday in an accident on Texas 6 between Bryan and Hearne.

It happened near Old Bryan Highway on Texas 6 (map is approximate) about 12:45 p.m. Authorities say a northbound 18-wheeler collided with a northbound pickup.

Three of the four people in the pickup were killed. The fourth suffered unknown injuries.

The truck driver was also injured, but the extent is unknown.

The accident shut down northbound and southbound traffic of Texas 6.

As of 4 p.m., troopers were alternating lanes of traffic, allowing northbound and southbound traffic to travel through only one lane. The result was a massive backup in both directions.
