Dallas Not Ready for Disaster

DALLAS (AP) _ An emergency preparedness task force says Dallas is not ready to deal with a major disaster.

The Mass Care Task Force says the city has only 26 percent of the supplies and volunteers needed for relief efforts following a major disaster.

In its first annual report, the task force says Dallas can’t provide adequate food, shelter or volunteers.

The group is raising money for the equipment needed to care for nearly 37,500 people in the event of a major disaster.

The task force has $2.2 million of the $26 million it would need to handle a disaster like Hurricane Katrina.
