Baylor holds on to beat Ags, 69-62

The Aggie women’s basketball team did all it took to beat unbeaten Baylor except make free throws. Last night the Aggies and top ranked Bears kept more than 10,000 fans in the gym from start to finish, but it was Baylor taking a 69-62 win back to Waco in a wild one at Reed Arena.

A&M made four more field goals than Baylor but made 14 less free throws and that proved the difference as Baylor gets the regular-season sweep over the Aggies.

After Baylor zoomed out to a 14-2 lead, A&M brought it back to a five point halftime deficit with an 17-8 run in the final six minutes of the half.

A&M continued the run and took its first lead 3 1/2 minutes into the second half but never led by more than a point, despite Baylor All American Brittany Griner spending considerable bench time with four fouls in the second half.

A&M trailed by one with 3:38 left but then suffered a turnover and two missed field goals while Baylor scored six straight to lead by seven with 1:39 left. Baylor made their free throws down the stretch and all-game long as they hit 82% from the line to A&M’s 47%, the Ags missing 10 of 19 tries.

Baylor goes to 30-0 for the year while A&M drops to 20-8.

The Aggies have one more regular-season game next Sunday at Texas before the Big 12 Tournament starts for them on March 8th in Kansas City.
