A College Station man is accused of child endangerment and resisting arrest.

Officer Rhonda Seaton says on Saturday night a passing motorist alerted 9-1-1 to an intoxicated man in the shorts carrying a 20 month old girl who wasn’t properly dressed for the 40 degree weather.

Police took the toddler and 26 year old George Stokes back to his apartment, where it was determined Stokes had walked with the toddler approximately 2.3 miles.

According to the police report, Stokes told investigators a man entered his apartment with two handguns.  Stokes says he took his gun and fired once, hitting his bedpost, then left with the child and ran outside.

Stokes was arrested after investigators, again from the police report, say they found no evidence of forced entry, giving multiple and inconsistent statements as to what happened, appearing to be intoxicated, and “his obvious inability to make responsible decisions while caring for a child under 15”.

Stokes was also arrested for resisting arrest, after officers reported using a Taser to move Stokes into a padded cell at the police department, then using leg cuffs and being strapped to a gurney to be taken to College Station Medical Center.

As of Monday afternoon, Stokes was in the Brazos County Jail in lieu $9,000 bond.
