GALVESTON, Texas (AP) _ A crude oil tank exploded and was burning on Galveston’s waterfront docks, rattling the island city but leading to no reports of injuries.
Fire companies from Texas City and La Marque came from the mainland to join their Galveston counterparts in fighting the fire on the island city’s northern waterfront.
City spokeswoman Alicia Cahill says two tanks were burning after the 7:30 p.m. Thursday explosion near the bridge to Pelican Island, an industrialized barrier island just north of downtown Galveston.
The bridge to Pelican Island was closed and Texas A&M University at Galveston, which is on Pelican Island, was under a shelter-in-place order.
