AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ A lawsuit by a small group of parents charges that Texas is not getting enough bang for its educational buck. It asks state courts to declare the school finance system unconstitutional due to inefficiency.
Attorneys plan to file their litigation today in Austin on behalf of five families statewide. Attorneys made a copy of the filing available to The Associated Press before submitting it to the court.
Four other lawsuits have already been filed charging that the school finance scheme approved by the Legislature is not equitable in how it distributes funding to school districts.
Chris Diamond is the lead attorney for the latest lawsuit. He says this litigation is meant to intervene on those previously filed and eventually be combined with them.
But he says his suit goes further, asking the courts to look at how money is spent rather than simply if it is distributed fairly among school districts.
