Cleanup continues from two oil spills at a lease near Smetana, west of Bryan.
The Texas Railroad Commission’s Ramona Nye says they’re still trying to determine why an estimated 175 barrels overflowed from a steel storage tank. All that oil was caught in a firewall surrounding the tank. That oil is being removed and the firewall soil being treated.
On the same lease, Nye says an unknown quantity of oil, drilling mud and other materials left a reserve pit that was overtaken by flood waters and went into Thompson Creek. The creek cleanup continues with the use of booms, vacuum trucks, and absorbent pads.
Nye said the Railroad Commission ordered the lease operator, Holley Oil Company, to assess the spills and complete cleanup operations.
