EDINBURG, Texas (AP) _ Preliminary autopsy results show the death of an 18-year-old high school student found dead at a South Texas university campus was a suicide.
The announcement came in a statement Tuesday from the University of Texas-Pan American. The statement did not contain the name of the woman, and no further explanation was given for her death.
The university says a relative of the woman contacted campus olice Monday, the same day the body was found. The woman was enrolled in the Edinburg school district.
Construction workers found the woman near the bottom of an outdoor staircase at the campus science building.
UTPA officials said the building would remain closed Tuesday. The university has maintained that the incident posed no danger to students or staff.
