2011 ended with a traffic nightmare in College Station Saturday morning following a two-vehicle accident on Texas6.
The head-on collision between a wrong-way driver and an 18-wheeler hauling hay led to northbound Highway 6 closed for about 10 hours.
Police say a sheriff’s deputy roused Jason Matthew Maines, 17, of College Station about 7:30 a.m. when he saw Maines asleep at a green light. When the deputy knocked on Maines’ window, Maines fled the intersection of Texas and Deacon, but soon was going south in the northbound lanes of Texas 6. The deputy pursued on the right side of the highway.
Maines collided head-on with the truck driven by 41-year-old Larry Majewski of Bellville. Both were taken to College Station Medical Center.
As of Sunday, Majewski was treated and released, Maines was in critical but stable condition.
The accident is still under investigation.
