Brazos County Commission Proposes Increasing The Property Tax Rate Following A Debate Between Two Members

A majority of Brazos County commissioners approve increasing the property tax rate for the fiscal year 2025 budget. That followed debates during Tuesday’s (August 27) budget workshop and regular meeting between county judge Duane Peters and commissioner Steve Aldrich. Peters, who made the motion to increase the property tax rate by one cent, wanted to protect the county’s fund balance…also known as the county’s savings account…to pay for capital projects instead of borrowing money. Aldrich failed in his attempt to approve a no new revenue property tax rate, which would have reduced the FY 2025 rate. Peters motion was approved by a four to one vote. City Of College Station Debuting Shuttle Bus Service To And From Kyle Field

There is a second shuttle bus route for Saturday’s Texas A&M football home opener. In addition to buses from downtown Bryan, the city of College Station has added free shuttles from the tourism building next to city hall at 1207 Texas. The newest feature of the city’s hometown tailgate event was brought up at the end of the August 22nd city council meeting. City manager Bryan Woods extended the invitation, including city council members as private citizens. Council discussion included a tease directed at Notre Dame fans. Mayor John Nichols said “If you see a few elves running around over there in green outfits you know Notre Dame is in town”. Councilman Bob Yancy then said “That would be water and fertilizer.” There is also free parking at the College Station tailgate. Their shuttle requires a wristband, which you can get from Candy 95 staff who will be at the tailgate. The College Station service will also be available during the city’s tailgate events prior to the Missouri, LSU, and Texas games. College Station & Bryan City Councils Approve Atmos Energy Rate Increases

Natural gas customers in College Station, Bryan, and 179 other cities served by Atmos Energy will be paying more starting October 1. College Station and Bryan city councils this month unanimously approved increases averaging $5.52 a month for residential customers and $13.39 a month for commercial customers. The Bryan council did not discuss the rate increase in public before its vote. College Station’s assistant to the city manager Ross Brady told council members the rate increases was $32 million dollars less than what Atmos first sought for the cities in its Mid-Tex region. The average monthly increase for Atmos industrial class customers is $87.34, and for Atmos transportation class customers the average increase is $574.68 per month.
