Record Fine for Appeals Judge

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ The top judge on the state’s Court of Criminal Appeals has been fined $100,000 for not fully reporting her income and property holdings as required by law.

The fine against Judge Sharon Keller is the largest ever imposed by the Texas Ethics Commission. Keller’s sworn personal income statements for 2007 and 2008 didn’t include properties valued at about $2.3 million and other income sources totaling about $183,000.

Keller is facing five separate charges of judicial misconduct for refusing to accept a late appeal in a death row case in September 2007.
