Finishing its eighth year, the Community Foundation of the Brazos Valley continues to grow.
At the foundation’s annual recognition of National Philanthropy Day, president Derek Dictson says over $61,000 dollars was distributed to 31 different non-profit agencies.
The foundation manages 56 endowed funds totaling over $1.7 million dollars. It was also announced that next year’s foundation tribute luncheon will honor Tedi and Chuck Ellison.

Donors, volunteers and grant recipients were honored on Thursday, November 17 at the annual celebration of National Philanthropy Day, hosted by the Community Foundation of theBrazosValleyat the Benjamin Knox Gallery.
The evening began with a welcome by Board Chair Susan Birdwell as she thanked the guests for partnering with the Community Foundation in their mission to improve the quality of life in theBrazosValleythrough the development of philanthropic giving, professional stewardship of endowed funds and responsible grant making. The invocation was given by Board Member Fain McDougal, and Board Chair-Elect Jerry Fox presented volunteer appreciation awards to Sara Miller from The Bank & Trust and Tom Wilkinson from the Brazos Valley Council of Governments.
Board Member Terry Childers presented over $7,000 in community grants to The Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley; Project Unity; Voices For Children – CASA of the Brazos Valley; Scotty’s House Brazos Valley Child Advocacy Center; Brazos Valley Food Bank; Friends of the Bryan College Station Public Library System; Hospice Brazos Valley; Aggie Habitat For Humanity; Brazos Valley Chorale; Aggieland Pregnancy Outreach; and Twin City Mission Youth & Family Services.
Board Member Ben Downs announced that the Community Foundation currently manages 56 endowed funds totaling over $1.7 million and has awarded 46 grants totaling more than $61,000 to 31BrazosValleynon-profit organizations during 2011. The Community Foundation has now awarded over $445,000 in grants since its founding in 2003.
The evening concluded with an announcement by Board Member Lina Lawson that the honorees for the 2012 Community Foundation Tribute Luncheon will be Tedi & Chuck Ellison, who have been selected for their outstanding philanthropic service to our community.
