Bryan’s McLeroy Loses Education Seat

Former State Board of Education chairman Don McLeroy lost in a close primary race with challenger Thomas Ratliff for his longtime seat on a panel that decides school curriculums for millions of Texas students.

McLeroy and Ratliff were neck-and-neck Tuesday night with more than three-fourths of precincts reporting. Ratliff, a lobbyist, is trying to oust McLeroy from the District 9 seat that the Bryan dentist has held for nearly 12 years.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, McLeroy trailed Ratliff by 839 votes.
