Congressman Flores on Increasing Jobs

Congressman Bill Flores has two schools of thought about the federal government’s role in job creation. Flores says what President Obama wants to do is the wrong option.

Flores says he supports public-private partnerships, but he does not want what he calls “another great big stimulus, pork barrel fund” to create jobs.

Flores says he supports the federal government being involved in creating jobs. He says public-private partnerships work if done the right way.

Flores endorses the philosophy of reducing federal spending and what he calls reigning in federal regulations.

Congressman Bill Flores (R-Bryan) visits with Scott DeLucia on WTAW’s The Infomaniacs about President Obama’s proposed jobs plan.

Following the President’s speech, Flores released the following statement.

“The Obama administration’s economically unsound policies, unfulfilled promises and massive spending programs have failed to create an environment conducive to job creation and economic growth. Our national unemployment rate is currently at 9.1 percent and the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects that it will remain above 8 percent until 2014. After two and a half years of record spending, job-destroying taxes and an oppressive regulatory regime, President Obama and Washington Democrats have continuously abdicated their responsibilities and left struggling Americans with no plan to lead our country out of this spending and debt-driven economic crisis. In his speech tonight, President Obama proposed the same failed idea that Washington can grow jobs and restore the economy. However, the American people know that the government does not create jobs or economic growth. So-called government stimulus spending only wastes hard-earned taxpayer dollars. The private sector needs certainty to invest in people, property and equipment.

“Americans want Main Street solutions – it is time to get Washington out of the way. For eight months, House Republicans have continued to focus on a common-sense, private sector blueprint for job creation and economic growth. In our Plan for America’s Job Creators we are pressing for comprehensive tax reform to improve American competitiveness, significant cuts in federal spending, an improved regulatory environment in Washington and a comprehensive energy policy in order to restore the confidence needed for small businesses and entrepreneurs to invest in our economy. House Republicans are committed to taking every possible step to spur job creation and get our economy back on track so that we may get America back to work again and restore our Nation’s promise, prosperity and security for future generations.”
