EL PASO, Texas (AP) _ Authorities are looking for a West Texas woman accused of participating in the attempted kidnapping of a 2-month-old child in what the baby’s mother claims is spillover violence from the drug war in Mexico.
Socorro police spokesman David Garcia said Monday his El Paso-area department is looking for 30-year-old Veronica Tarin. Another suspect, 32-year-old Juan Carlos Martinez, turned himself in Sunday and is being held on $194,000 bond.
Online court records don’t list an attorney for Martinez.
Socorro police say five people broke into Alicia Gonzalez-Galvan’s house and took her infant. The baby was found hours later in the woman’s front yard. It’s not clear whether the child was taken from the property.
Gonzalez-Galvan claims the kidnappers are linked to drug cartels from Ciudad Juarez, across from El Paso.
