COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M senior cornerback Coryell Judie received another national accolade Monday as the Aggie defensive back was named to the “watch list” for the Jim Thorpe Award.
The Thorpe Award, which is given annually to the country’s best defensive back, was established in 1986 and is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2011. The winner will be selected from three finalists and announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 8, 2011, on ESPN.
Judie has also been selected to the watch lists for the Nagurski Award and the Bednarik Award, both of which are given to the nation’s most outstanding defensive player. He has also been recognized this summer by the College Football Performance Awards as both a defensive back and kickoff returner.
In his A&M debut season in 2010, the former Marlin High School standout tied for the team lead with four pickoffs and had eight broken up passes, while making 57 tackles. As a kickoff returner, Judie averaged 30.2 yards on 20 returns with two touchdowns.
