Tiny Panhandle Schools Hit Hard by Flu

AMARILLO, Texas (AP) _ The tiny Texline school district is the latest in the Texas Panhandle to cancel classes because of illnesses including the flu.

The Texline district was scheduled to shut its doors beginning Friday and hoped to reopen on Wednesday, the Amarillo Globe-News reported.

Some or all campuses in at least eight other Panhandle communities have shut down in the last week due to illness.

Schools in Sunray, Spearman and Higgins closed Thursday because of the high number of students out sick.

Texline, on the Texas-New Mexico border in northwest corner of the state, is a community of about 500.
