Strong Storms Wreak Havoc in North Texas

DALLAS (AP) _ North Texans spent a jittery night as savage thunderstorms packing hail and damaging winds tore through the region.

Winds gusting as high as 72 mph downed tree limbs and power lines in much of the region, including the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

A Cleburne police dispatcher says a gust of winds toppled a tractor-trailer rig in a parking lot. She says there were injuries, but none severe. A spokeswoman at Harris Methodist Cleburne hospital reports no one hospitalized from the 7:50 p.m. Monday incident.

Oncor spokeswoman Megan Wright reports early estimates were that 16,000 North Texas customers were without power, but the toll was expected to rise.

The region was under a severe thunderstorm watch through most of the evening and flash flood watch through the night.
