The No. 4 Texas A&M women’s golf team blitzed the front nine of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic Monday and finished the day in third with a score of 10-under 278 at the Red Sky Golf Club.
The Maroon & White teed off on the back nine and went on to turn in a tournament-best 9-under on the front nine. Louise Reau got the Aggies four shots back on the front, while Vanessa Borovilos added another three birdies. The team ended the day in third behind No. 2 USC (-22) and Miami (-11).
The round was the 15th in program history that the Aggies have shot 10-under as a team. Nine of those rounds have been during the Gerrod Chadwell era.
Borovilos led the team with a score of 5-under 67. The All-American carded an eagle on the par-5 No. 15 and then added three birdies on the front to earn a share of fourth. The junior was two shots back of the individual lead.
Reau sank a team-high six birdies and shot 4-under 68. The senior was tied for seventh after 18 holes. Sky Sudberry fired a 1-under 71 in her first action of the season and was knotted up for 25th.
Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio shot even-par and was tied for 33rd, while freshman Emerie Schartz went 2-over 74 and held onto a piece of 58th.
The Aggies return for the second round Tuesday with a tee time of 12:40 p.m.
