1 Dead, 2 Injured in Fiery 3 Vehicle Crash in Grimes County

One person was killed after a fiery wreck in Grimes County late Sunday.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the initial crash between a pickup and a car happened around 11:15pm Sunday night.

Investigations show that a truck traveling westbound on SH 30 near FM 244 in Grimes County crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided with a 1972 Dodge Polara sedan driven by 59-year-old Charles Keil, of Willis. Keil was pronounced dead at the scene.

A motorcyclist traveling westbound did not have enough time to react to the crash and collided with the Dodge sedan. He was transported to a College Station hospital in stable condition.

The Iola Volunteer Fire Department says the pickup was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived and the driver had managed to escape, but not before suffering severe burns. He was transported via Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston in stable condition.

Investigators had SH 30 was closed until just after 5:00am Monday morning. DPS says the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
