The new College Station High School has its first principal.

The current principal at Rock Prairie Elementary, Mike Martindale, starts his new job March 1st.

At that time, Rock Prairie assistant principal Kathryn Ballard will lead the elementary through the remainder of the school year.

Martindale, who is finishing his fourth year with the district, was selected from a field of internal candidates.

Superintendent Eddie Coulson made the announcement Monday.

Prior to coming to CSISD in July 2007, Martindale spent 1.5 years as the Superintendent of Schools at Florence ISD. He served a stint as Director of Secondary Schools at Angleton ISD after being the Angleton High School Principal from 2002-2005. Martindale also served as principal of Barbers Hill Intermediate (Barbers Hill ISD) and Westside Elementary (Angleton ISD).

Martindale will work with central office administration to ensure a smooth opening of CSHS. His duties will include working with the architects and contractors to finalize the building’s details and helping with the purchasing decisions of furniture, fixtures and equipment. Additionally, Martindale will spearhead the organization of clubs, activities, athletics, mascot and color selection as well as assembling a staff, policies and procedures.
