Aggie Track & Field Athletes Garner SEC Weekly Honors

News release from Texas A&M Athletics: 

Texas A&M track & field’s Zaza Nnamdi and Peter Narumbe earned SEC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week and Men’s Freshman of the Week honors, respectively, following standout performances at the Tom Jones Memorial, the league announced Tuesday.

Nnamdi put the nation on notice, as he won the men’s javelin title with a personal-best mark of 84.68m/277-10. The throw debuted him at No. 2 in the Aggie all-time performers list, while landing him at No. 1 in the country and No. 3 in the world this year. His toss also etched his name in the record books, as he now ranks at No. 4 in NCAA history and No. 7 in African history.

Narumbe continued to deliver in his breakout freshman campaign, after clocking a career-best time of 1:45.05 to win the 800m at the Tom Jones Memorial. Narumbe’s mark entered him among the Aggie greats in the all-time performers list at fifth and landed him at nationally at No. 2 overall and No. 1 among freshmen.

The Aggies stay on the road and head to the Penn Relays, April 23-25, held at Franklin Field facility.
