Texas A&M Softball Outslugs Cowgirls in Run-Rule Victory

News release from Texas A&M Athletics: 

The No. 13 Texas A&M softball team run-ruled McNeese, 11-1, in five innings Wednesday night at Davis Diamond.

Texas A&M (27-12) posted crooked numbers in all but one inning and tallied five extra-base hits, including three doubles, one triple and one home run. Kelsey Mathis paced the offense, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and three RBI. Mya Perez and KK Dement each drove in multiple runs, while Perez added her 14th home run of the season.

Sidne Peters (W, 3.0 IP) earned the win, striking out five while allowing just one hit and one unearned run. Grace Sparks closed out the game with 2.0 scoreless innings and one strikeout.

McNeese (23-17) capitalized on a walk and a Texas A&M throwing error to score in the opening inning. The Aggies answered in the bottom half as Tallen Edwards drew a walk before Perez launched a 304-foot, two-run home run to give A&M a 2-1 lead.

The Aggies broke the game open in the third inning. Edwards and Ariel Kowalewski each singled before Dement delivered a two-RBI double. Mathis followed with a two-RBI triple to extend the lead to 8-1.

The Maroon & White added three runs in the fourth, using a leadoff double, three walks, a sacrifice fly and another double to cap the scoring.

Texas A&M travels to Ole Miss for a three-game set beginning Friday at 5 p.m., followed by game two on Saturday at 2 p.m. and the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games can be streamed on SEC Network+.
