Texas A&M Baseball Claims Midweek Bout Over HCU

News release from Texas A&M Athletics: 

The No. 25 Texas A&M baseball team topped HCU in midweek action, 5-1, Tuesday night from Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

The Aggies (19-5) tallied seven hits, with three going for extra bases. On the mound, the Maroon & White charted nine strikeouts and did not issue a walk.

Caden Sorrell put the home team on the board in the first inning with a line-drive solo shot to right field. His 12th homer of the season traveled 355 feet and left the bat at 108 miles per hour with a 20 degree launch angle.

Zane Becker chalked another run in the second inning with an RBI groundout. In the fourth, Jorian Wilson belted a moonshot to right field that left the bat at 110 miles per hour at a 45 degree launch angle, putting the Aggies up 3-0. The freshman outfielder preserved a run in the fifth inning, nabbing a runner with an on-target throw to home plate on a single.

Blake Binderup shot an RBI double in the sixth inning and came around to score on a wild pitch to give the Maroon & White a five-run advantage.

The Huskies (11-13) scratched across a run in the eighth inning, but the lone score was all the visitors could muster.

Cole Hubert was tabbed the starter for Texas A&M, working 4.1 innings in scoreless fashion while striking out three batters. Grant Cunningham (1-1) earned his first win of the season after tossing 3.0 innings in relief, allowing one run and punching out three. Juan Vargas entered in the eighth inning but could only chart a strikeout before being relieved by Clayton Freshcorn. The Waller, Texas, native recorded his fifth save of the year, stranding the bases loaded in the eighth and notching the final three outs in the ninth.
