Groundbreaking At The New Home of Scotty’s House Child Advocacy Center

This year’s annual recognition of child abuse awareness and prevention month by Scotty’s House child advocacy center had more meaning than usual. That’s because the Bryan based regional agency supporting child abuse victims and their families held a groundbreaking of what will be their new home. Thursday’s event is repurposing four floors of an existing office building at 1200 Briarcrest, just east of Villa Maria. The agency opened in 1995, the first move was from its original home on Coulter Drive to Kent Street in 2010. The move to the new facility that is planned for the summer of 2027 will provide three times the space of its current building. Click below to hear the groundbreaking program. The emcee is Karla Castillo and speakers are Scotty’s House board chairman Ronnie Gonzales, executive director Cary Baker, director of external relations Melanie Scarpace, and the chairman of the capital campaign John Gottfried. This Friday and Saturday (April 10-11) is the annual Chilifest music festival near Snook. Since 1999, millions of dollars have been given to local charities according to their website. While Chilifest is in its 27th year, it is the first for new Burleson County sheriff Bill Rios. And the Burleson County sheriff’s Facebook page has two recent posts inviting those attending to have a good time while advising of the consequences of going too far. Arrests For Sexual Abuse Of A Child And A Traffic Stop Where Two Small Children Were Not In Their Car Seats

Bryan police arrest a San Marcos man on charges of online solicitation and sexual assault of a 14 year old girl and possessing child pornography. The BPD arrest report says the victim and 31 year old Ross Castillo met on a chat website in August 2024 and she told investigators what happened six months later. The victim said Castillo threatened to kill her if she left him or reported him. As of April 8, Castillo remains jailed in lieu of bonds totaling $228,000 dollars. That includes two warrants from Hays County on DWI charges. A College Station police officer who pulled over a SUV for unconfirmed insurance wound up taking the driver to jail on multiple charges. CSPD arrest reports do not say what happened to children born in 2025 and in 2022 who were not in their car seats. 27 year old Keiondra Gooden, who was talking to her mother on her phone, was charged with interfering with public duties after forcing the officer to the driver’s side of the SUV as motorists were going by on Harvey Mitchell Parkway. And she was charged with resisting arrest for refusing to get out of her SUV, requiring more officers at the scene to move the woman to a patrol vehicle. Gooden is out of jail after posting bonds totaling $9,000 dollars.
