Those who follow the College Station police Facebook page were introduced Thursday (January 22) to the department’s newest K-9 officer.

Zero, a Dutch Shepherd, takes over for Rico, who retired last month after nine years of service.

Zero and his handler are in Utah for two months of intensive training.

The advanced training will allow Zero to assist with detecting narcotics, tracking suspects, and patrol related duties.

The new K-9 officer was mentioned at the end of Thursday night’s College Station city councilwoman Melissa McIlhaney, who described him as a “very gorgeous addition to our police department.”

When McIlhaney asked if Zero could appear at the next council meeting, city manager Bryan Woods said he was already on his way to training. Then Woods drew laughter when he said “I personally think we ought to bring the K-9’s in all the time. I think everybody would be way more chill.”
