A burn ban has returned to Robertson County. That follows several grass fires last Friday (January 2). That’s the only ban affecting Brazos and surrounding counties. But grass fires have also been reported in Burleson, Grimes, Leon, and Washington counties.

The Burleson County sheriff’s office gives a shoutout to volunteer fire departments on its Facebook page for its response to a variety of calls between Christmas and New Year’s.

The calls includes Caldwell firefighters arriving on New Year’s Eve afternoon to a postal service van on FM 3058 that was fully engulfed in flames. The van was tilted to get access to the burning fuel tank.

Last Friday, Caldwell firefighters received assistance from a local resident driving a front end loader to help with a fire in two large wood piles near Chriesman.

Snook volunteer firefighters on New Year’s Day responded to a mutual aid call on what was a 31 acre wildland fire that included 55 round hay bales.

No fire activity during the period was reported on the Facebook pages of the College Station and Bryan fire departments, the Brazos County precinct 2, 3, and 4 departments, or the Brazos County emergency management office.
