Development of Texas A&M’s new faculty advisory council employs three mathematical formulas.

That’s included in the December newsletter posted on the website of A&M interim president Tommy Williams.

The 60 member advisory council replaces the faculty senate, which was eliminated by state lawmakers during the 2025 legislative session.

Lawmakers replaced the independent faculty senate with a council that is controlled by the board of regents and the university president.

A&M determined there are 3,871.39 full time equivalent faculty members in the university’s 17 colleges and schools.

The president will appoint one member from each college and school. The remaining 43 members will be selected by an election of eligible faculty members from each college and school.

11 elected seats will come from the college of arts and sciences, which has 866 eligible faculty members.

10 elected seats will come from the college of engineering, which has 769 eligible faculty members.

The remaining colleges and schools will have between one and four elected seats.

The advisory council’s website does not say when faculty elections will take place, only that a detailed timeline is coming soon.

And the state legislation says the president will appoint the council’s leadership.
