Texas A&M’s new interim president issues his first message.
On the A&M president’s website, Tommy Williams says he recognizes challenges in recent weeks, noting in particular the resignation of Mark Welsh.
Williams said Welsh helped guide A&M through complex times and positioned the university for continued success. Williams also said Welsh led with integrity, humility, and a steadfast commitment to the university’s mission.
Williams, who graduated from A&M in 1978, also wrote that leadership transitions can be opportunities to reaffirm university’s mission. And he asked for student and employee participation in a yet to be announced series of listening sessions to ensure a seamless handoff to the permanent president.
Williams said that together with students and employees, they will carry forward the same spirit of service and unity that has defined the university that next year will celebrate its 150th anniversary.
