Texas Boaters Rescued at Sea

PORT ARANSAS, Texas (AP) _ The Coast Guard says three Texas boaters missing for a week have been found alive, sitting on top of their capsized boat 180 miles from land.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Renee Aiello says a Good Samaritan vessel spotted the three in the water off Port Aransas late Saturday and rescued them.

They were reported missing Aug. 22 after they left Matagorda on a fishing trip and never returned.

Aiello wasn’t sure exactly when the 23-foot catamaran capsized. She says the three were reunited with their families early Sunday and declined medical attention. Matagorda is about 90 miles southwest of Houston and about 130 miles northeast of Port Aransas.

The Coast Guard had called off its search Friday after scouring 86,000 square miles of ocean without finding them.
