News release from Texas A&M athletics:

The Texas A&M soccer team lifts the lid on the 2025 campaign when the Aggies host the Baylor Bears for Thursday’s 7:30 p.m. match at Ellis Field.

The Maroon & White embark on their 33rd season, including their 14th year in the SEC.

While Texas A&M returns just one starter from last year’s squad, they boast a roster with tons of starting experience, including eight players who started 14 or more Division I matches last season.

The new-look Aggies welcome 10 transfers this offseason, including All-Mountain West Conference midfielder Trinity Buchanan, Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Year Erica Defferding, and All-AAC forward Leah Diaz, All-Big West First Team forward Kaylee Noble and West Coast Conference All-Freshman defender Bella Yakel.

Texas A&M is excited with the addition of five talented freshmen, including Bailey Cate, Riley Crooks, Lucy Landherr, Tessa Lavender and Holly Storer. Redshirt freshmen Emma Hoang and Mary Claire Torn are also expected to make contributions after missing their rookie campaigns due to injury.

Since 1993, Texas A&M is 24-7-1 all-time in the first match of the year. The Aggies are 17-5-1 in their last 23 openers with three of the losses coming to the preseason No. 1 team, including North Carolina (0-3) in 2010, Florida State (0-1) in 2016 and Florida State (0-1) in 2021. The other losses were against then-No. 7 Duke (L, 0-2) in 2013 and then-No. 6 Florida State (1-2) in 2024.

The Aggies own a 14-5-3 edge in the all-time series. The teams have met three times since Texas A&M moved to the green pastures of the SEC with Baylor owning a 1-0-2 edge. The Bears won last year’s meeting, 1-0, with the game-winning goal in the 85th minute.

Baylor is powered by Preseason All-Big 12 selection Tyler Isgrig who accounted for the Bears’ game-winning goal against Texas A&M last year. Baylor is entering its fourth season under head coach Michelle Lenard. Last season the Bears posted an 8-8-5 mark with a 2-5-4 league ledger.
