LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 11 Texas A&M men’s basketball team dropped a 81-69 decision to the No. 8 Kentucky Wildcats on Tuesday at Rupp Arena.
Playing their third straight game without two-time All-SEC selection Wade Taylor IV, the Aggies fell to 13-4 overall and 2-2 in SEC play, while the Wildcats improved to 14-3 overall and 3-1 in league play.
A tight game at halftime, the Wildcats took control in the second half with a quick 8-0 run before the Aggies got on the board. The Wildcats’ advantage grew to double-digits less than three minutes into the second half and the Aggies could get as close as six points the rest of the way.
Zhuric Phelps posted his third straight game with 20+ points as he led the offense with 21 points while also pulling down a team-high seven rebounds. Joining him in double figures were Pharrel Payne with 15 points and Manny Obaseki with 12.
The Aggies trailed by three at halftime, 35-32, after the Wildcats hit a late 3-pointer to grab the advantage. Texas A&M had the lead in the first half for over 10 minutes as Phelps led the way with 11 points and five rebounds. The Maroon & White was strong from deep as they hit 7-of-18 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes.
