Texas A&M Women’s Golf in Second Headed to Final Round

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

FORT WORTH – The No. 19 Texas A&M women’s golf team was tied for second and was led by freshman Vanessa Borovilos who logged a 3-under 139 after the first two rounds of the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate at Ridglea Country Club Monday.

“We have seen it coming with Vanessa,” head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. “She played really well in the practice round, so it is great to see that carry over into the tournament. Playing 36 holes in a day is a grind and our team fought through that and put us in position to bring some hardware home tomorrow.”

The Aggies shot 6-over 574 at the par-71 course which was three shots behind Wake Forest for the top spot on the team leaderboard. Oklahoma State (+6), SMU (+10) and Kentucky (+10) rounded out the top five.

Borovilos shot a 4-under 67 in the first round, which was highlighted by an eagle on No. 18, and fired a gritty 1-over 72 to secure her spot in the chase for the individual title. The Etobicoke, Ontario, native was tied with Grace Kilcrease and Thitaporn Saithip of Oklahoma State.

Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio also had a strong day, taking a piece of fourth with her into Tuesday with a 1-under 141. Right on the outside of the top 10 was All-American Adela Cernousek who produced a 1-over 143 to tie for 11th.

Lauren Nguyen and Kynadie Adams rounded out the lineup tied for 39th and 42nd, respectively. Sky Sudberry was in knotted up for 31st as an individual.
