News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Texas A&M’s Wade Taylor IV was named to the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year preseason watch list for the second straight year, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Monday.
Taylor, a senior from Dallas, Texas, was also named to Cousy Award Midseason Top 10 list a year ago. Taylor joins Zakai Zeigler of Tennessee and Dajuan Harris Jr. of Kansas as the only 2024-25 returnees from last season’s midseason list.
Taylor enters his final season in the maroon and white with 13 season school records already on his resume and more than 30 career school and SEC Tournament standards within range. On his way to first-team All-SEC and NABC All-District honors last season, the do-it-all Taylor was the conference’s No. 3 scorer with 687 points while ranking in the top 10 in assists, steals, 3-pointers, free throws and FT percentage and minutes played. Taylor IV is the lone DI player to log 500+ points, 100+ assists and 60+ steals the past two seasons.
Named after Class of 1971 Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy, the annual honor, now in its 22nd year, recognizes the top point guard in Division I men’s college basketball.
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in each of the three rounds starting on Friday, November 1. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2025 Bob Cousy and Nancy Lieberman Awards will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February, to just 5. In March, the five finalists will be presented to Cousy, Lieberman, and the Hall of Fame’s selection committees, where winners will be selected. The Selection Committees for the Bob Cousy and Nancy Lieberman Awards are composed of top men’s and women’s college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers.
Previous winners of the Bob Cousy Award include former Texas A&M standout Acie Law IV (2006-07), as well as Tristan Newton, UConn (2024), Markquis Nowell, Kansas State (2023), Collin Gillespie, Villanova (2022), Ayo Dosunmu, Illinois (2021), Ja Morant, Murray State (2019), Jalen Brunson, Villanova (2018), Trey Burke, Michigan (2013), Kendall Marshall, North Carolina (2012), Kemba Walker, Connecticut (2011), and Jameer Nelson, St. Joseph’s (2004).
