An organizational meeting to form a new American Legion Post in College Station is Tuesday, October 29th.
Organizer Heather Humphrey says the desire to create a new post comes from the community’s growth.
“We are becoming saturated with more and more veterans as the years keep coming, so that is where that idea came from. Also, our national office recommends that we have a post per school district in the area,” says Humphrey.
Humphrey says they are hoping to accomplish a number of things at the informational meeting.
“One is to get our charter going, to decide what our post number is going to be, what our post name is going to be, and what our dues are going to be,” says Humphrey.
Humphrey says they must have 15 new members who have never been part of the American Legion. Once the new post has a temporary charter, they can begin accepting transfers from other posts.
The meeting is Tuesday, October 29th at 6:30 p.m. at Urban Table.

An organizational meeting to form a new American Legion Post in College Station will be held at Urban Table on October 29, 2024, at 6:30pm.
Organizers are looking for honorably discharged veterans who are not currently a member of the American Legion or are not currently a member of an American Legion post. Veterans interested in joining as a charter member should bring a copy of DD Form 214 Discharge Orders. Once the new post has a temporary charter, they will begin accepting transfers from other posts – especially those in Post 345, an “at large” virtual post for the State of Texas, typically used by veterans who initially join online.
The national office of the American Legion recommends that any community that has their own independent school district is large enough to have an American Legion Post. Texas State Commander Tom Marty will attend the meeting to encourage growth of the American Legion in College Station. Texas State Judge Advocate JD Langley will attend the meeting to advise on the process of chartering a new post.
