News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
TUSCALOOSA – The Texas A&M soccer team was unable to break the scoring seal in a 1-0 loss against the Crimson Tide Sunday evening at Alabama Soccer Stadium.
The Aggies controlled the run of play in the first half outshooting Alabama, 8-4, but were unable to conjure up a goal. The Crimson Tide (8-3-5, 1-1-5 SEC), on the other hand, was able to take advantage of an A&M defender slipping trying to track a ball served over the top by Nadia Ramadan. The folly allowed Gianna Paul to break loose for a 1-v-1 opportunity and she converted to give Alabama a 1-0 lead 20:12 into the contest.
Alabama, which could not afford another tie, went hard after more goals in the second half, outshooting Texas A&M 17-4. Texas A&M (8-7-0, 3-4-0 SEC) was able to withstand the barrage, thanks in part to five second-half saves by goalkeeper Sydney Becerra, but the Maroon & White were unable to find an equalizer.
The Crimson Tide’s aggressive play showed in the foul count (14-7) and yellow card tally (3-1), but they avoided a red card booking.
