EDMOND, Okla. – Texas A&M women’s tennis senior Mary Stoiana earned her first professional circuit singles title with a win at the ITF W75 – Edmond Open, finishing her run with Sunday’s 7-5, 6-3 victory over Alana Smith.
Stoiana, the No. 1 ranked collegiate player, won five matches to earn the trophy, only needing three sets in her quarterfinal triumph over Darja Vidmanova (6-4, 4-6, 7-5).
The Southbury, Connecticut native cruised through her first and second round matches with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Allie Kiick and a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sophie Chang. Following her win over Vidmanova, a Georgia senior, she toppled another Bulldog in the semifinal round besting Anastasiya Lopata, 6-3, 7-5.
In September, Stoiana, the 2024 ITA National Player of the Year, secured a spot in the NCAA Championships after advancing to the consolation finals at the ITA All-American Championships.
