The funeral service for retired Bryan High School head football coach and Bryan ISD school board member Merrill Green will take place Tuesday, October 8, at 2 p.m. at Bryan’s First Baptist Church. While Green was a member of the Bryan Church of the Nazarene, First Baptist can accommodate the expected crowd that will be attending.
Bryan ISD is holding a special recognition for Green and his family at Merrill Green stadium Friday, October 4, at 6:45 p.m. prior to the Vikings football game. Before the game there will be a tribute video. And the football team will wear MG stickers during the game.

The namesake of the Bryan school district’s football stadium has died.
The announcement of Merrill Green’s passing was shared on the X/Twitter account of Bryan High School principal Lane Buban.
Green coached the Bryan High football team between 1972 and 1992.
He was also a member of the Bryan ISD school board for more than 12 years, retiring from that position in 2012.
A biography published by the Chickasha, Oklahoma school district says Green graduated high school there as senior class president.
The biography also points out Green graduated from the University of Oklahoma, where he was a member of the 1950 national championship football team and the 1951 national championship baseball team.
Green moved to Bryan after spending seven years at Abilene Cooper High School.
Before beginning his high school coaching career, Green coached on the collegiate level at Wichita State, the University of Missouri, the University of Arkansas and at Texas Tech.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced. Merrill Green was 94 years old.
