AUSTIN – The Texas A&M women’s tennis team was voted as the best women’s college team in the Best of Texas Tennis people’s choice campaign of 2024, the USTA announced Thursday.
In its third year as a program, nearly 100,000 people across Texas voted over 30 categories from a slate of 146 nominees. Winners receive a custom Best of Texas Tennis plaque or banner.
Texas A&M earned its first women’s tennis national title in May, running a gauntlet of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia by a combined tally of 24-4 in the six matches. During the season, the Aggies earned their third consecutive SEC regular-season title, ending the campaign with a 12-1 league ledger and a 28-7 overall mark.
The No. 1 player in the nation, Mary Stoiana was named Tournament MVP and was joined on the All-Tournament singles team by teammates Carson Branstine, Nicole Khirin and Lucciana Perez. Texas A&M swept the All-Tournament Team doubles accolades with Stoiana/Mia Kupres on Court 1, Branstine/Perez on court 2 and Khirin/Jeanette Mireles on court 3. Stoiana was named the ITA Player of the Year, becoming the first Aggie in program history to do so.
