Bryan Police And Bryan ISD Announce A Student’s Arrest For Threatening To Shoot Another Student

Bryan police and Bryan ISD announce a student was arrested for threatening to shoot another student.

The joint news release says no gun was found and there was no threat to the school, students, or staff.

The threat took place Thursday morning (September 26) inside BISD’s district alternative education program high school (DAEP), which moved over the summer to the former Milam elementary building near Henderson Park.

The student’s verbal threat was overheard by an administrator.

The student, whose age and gender were not released, was taken to juvenile detention on a misdemeanor charge of exhibition, use, or threat of exhibition or use of a firearm.

News release from Bryan police and Bryan ISD:

On September 26th, 2024, at approximately 11:23 a.m., BISD administration along with Bryan Police Department School Resource Officers responded to a verbal threat made by a student regarding shooting another student. This incident took place at the District Alternative Education Program High School (DAEP).

The verbal threat was overheard by a school administrator and immediately reported and addressed.

During the investigation, it was determined no firearm was displayed or located. It was also determined there was no threat to the school, students or staff.

The juvenile student was placed under arrest and transported to the Brazos County Juvenile Detention Center and booked in for Texas Education Code 37.125 Exhibition, Use, or Threat of Exhibition or Use of Firearms.

Due to the arrest involving a juvenile, no further information will be released.

(a) A person commits an offense if, in a manner intended to cause alarm or personal injury to another person or to damage school property, the person intentionally:

(3) threatens to exhibit or use a firearm in or on property described by Subdivision (1)(A) or on a bus described by Subdivision (1)(B).

(c) An offense under Subsection (a)(3) is a Class A misdemeanor.

The Bryan Police Department and BISD ask that parents speak to their children and remind them of the seriousness of making threats towards the schools, students or staff. The Bryan Police Department will continue to thoroughly investigate all of these cases to protect students and staff.
