News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
COLUMBIA – The Texas A&M soccer team earned the 500th win in program with the Aggies’ 1-0 victory over the Missouri Tigers to open SEC play at Walton Soccer Stadium Thursday evening.
The Aggies became the 13th NCAA Division I program to reach the milestone, including the first SEC team and the first team from the Lone Star State.
Texas A&M (6-3-0) got the game-winner from Margo Matula in the 62nd minute. Mia Pante played a short corner to Sydney Becerra at the left corner of the penalty box. Becerra sent a ball into Matula who put in a yeoman’s effort to get a shot past the goalkeeper.
The Aggies earned their sixth shutout of the season, including the third with Sydney Fuller in goal. The stout back line of Adysen Armenta, Carolyn Calzada, Macy Matula and Margo Matula held Missouri to just two shots-on-goal for the contest.
Despite dictating terms for much of the first half, the Maroon & White went into the locker room scoreless at halftime for the sixth consecutive match. Texas A&M owned the edges in shots (9-4), shots-on-goal (3-0) and corner kicks (7-2), but the match was a 0-0 draw at the intermission. For the contest, the Aggies owned wide advantages in shots (18-9), shots-on-goal (8-2) and corner kicks (10-3).
