Texas A&M Soccer Loses at UConn

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

STORRS, Conn. – The Texas A&M soccer team dropped its non-conference finale against the UConn Huskies Sunday afternoon at Morrone Stadium, 6-0.

The Aggies were sunk by an efficient attack by UConn. The Huskies scored on six of their nine shots-on-goal while Texas A&M owned a 13-12 edge in shots for the contest. The corner kicks were even 2-2, but the Huskies were able to convert on both of their chances.

UConn broke the scoring seal in the 17th minute off a corner kick goal. It looked like it would be 1-0 in favor of the home team, but a free kick from a dangerous spot and lightning quick counterattack gave the Huskies two goals in a span of 41 seconds and they took a 3-0 lead into halftime despite shots being even 7-7.

The Aggies were aggressive early on in the second stanza, but UConn struck again 2:15 into the half with Joyce Ryder banging one off the crossbar from 35 yards.

UConn’s Chioma Okafor entered the contest having scored six of the Huskies’ 13 goals. The Aggies held her without a shot in the contest, but Connecticut found other scorers with Sophie McCarthy leading the attack with two tallies and one each by Maddie Fried, Anaya Johnson, Brooke Walonis and Joyce Ryder
