Texas A&M Volleyball Set for Matchup with Texas State

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M volleyball team hosts Texas State Friday for Fish Camp night where the Aggies look to extend their winning streak with first serve set for 6:30 p.m in Reed Arena.

The Maroon & White swept A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday for their third-straight win to start the 2024 campaign. A&M trailed late in the first set, however a rally backed by the 2,500 members of the 12th Man in attendance helped it steal the opener, 26-24. It was all Aggies after that, as they outscored the Islanders 50-33 in the final two frames for its second sweep of the year.

Logan Lednicky and Morgan Perkins spearheaded the Maroon & White’s offensive onslaught, as the pair each logged 12 kills versus the Islanders. This was Lednicky’s third-consecutive match with 12+ kills and Perkins’ first double-digit outing of the season, making her the fifth member of the team to do so this year.

A&M junior Maddie Waak was named SEC Setter of the Week for the first time in her career, following the teams opening action at the Jaguar invitational. The Katy, Texas native dished 85 assists across seven sets, averaging 12.14 per frame, while adding 13 digs and three kills.

The Aggies enter the match with the Bobcats ranked top-10 nationally in three team statistical categories, including second in assists per set (14.90), third in kills per set (15.90) and 10th in hitting percentage (.324).

Friday’s matchup versus Texas State will be the 30th meeting between the programs, with fixtures dating back to 1976. The Aggies have dominated the overall series versus the Bobcats, as they boast a 26-3 record all time. Texas State secured its third win of the season Wednesday, as it downed UTSA in four sets, 3-1, to get back in the win column following a loss to Rice.

The Bobcats were tabbed as favorites in the Sun Belt Conference’s Coach’s Poll and had four players receive Preseason All-Sun Belt honors. This week’s fixture will be the first since 2021 when the Aggies topped Texas State in three sets.
