Downtown Bryan is now open for selling alcohol for off-premise consumption.
That is after the Bryan city council repealed an ordinance that now allows off-premise alcohol consumption outside of downtown establishments during the same hours as the rest of the city.
Deputy city manager Joey Dunn told the council that this applies to the entire 72 block downtown area, which is bordered by Texas Avenue, Martin Luther King Jr. Street, Sims Avenue, and 31st Street.
Before the repeal, the downtown Bryan alcohol ordinance was stricter than state law.
Background information from the city says similar repeals were recently done in Fredericksburg, Georgetown, McKinney, and other Texas cities.
The repeal means local businesses, with appropriate licenses from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, can sell alcoholic beverages for on-premise and off-premise consumption on Monday through Saturday between seven a.m. until 2:15 a.m., and on Sundays between noon and 2:15 a.m.
