No. 13 A&M Women’s Tennis Beat LSU for Fourth Straight Win

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BATON ROUGE – The No. 13 Texas A&M women’s tennis team claimed its fourth-straight win as it downed the Tigers at the LSU Tennis Complex Friday evening, 6-1.

The Aggies (16-6, 8-1 SEC) continued their run of doubles dominance, as they secured their ninth-straight doubles point. Nicole Khirin/Sydney Fitch got the ball rolling, downing LSU’s (11-8, 3-6 SEC) Gaby Rivera/Maya Tahan on court 3, 6-3. Ensuring the advantage heading into singles were Lucciana Perez/Jeanette Mireles, as they won their third-straight versus Aran Teixido/Florentine Dekkers, 6-4.

Texas A&M carried its momentum into singles play and struck twice early through Daria Smetannikov and Mireles. Doubling the Aggies advantage was Smetannikov on court 6, as she bested Emma Grant in straight sets (6-2, 6-2). Mireles followed suit on court 5, winning her 15th singles match of the year over Kenna Erickson (6-2, 6-1), leaving the Maroon & White one point from victory, 3-0.

LSU stole a point of its own on court 2, however No. 1 Mary Stoiana responded and left no doubt. The junior tacked on her 25th singles victory of the season, as she extended her winning streak to four downing Teixido on court 1 (6-3, 6-3).

The Aggies secured another two points after the match victory was ensured. Perez struck shortly after Stoiana, besting Tahan on court 4 (6-3, 6-3), and rounding out the wins was No. 36 Mia Kupres who outlasted Anita Sahdiieva on court 3 (6-2, 7-5).
