College Station Man Who Eluded Law Enforcement In A Stolen Vehicle Is Found

A College Station man accused of eluding Navasota and College Station police in a stolen vehicle the Saturday before last has been found.

33 year old Matthew Jarrett was arrested Tuesday in Madison County then taken to the Brazos County jail.

He is held on bonds totaling $156,000 dollars on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to the CSPD arrest reports, Jarrett stole a SUV in College Station June 13.

He and a passenger drove to Navasota, where the chase began back to College Station.

Jarrett stopped the SUV and got away while the passenger stayed. The passenger told officers he wanted out of the SUV but Jarrett threatened to shoot him.

The chase also involved the Grimes and Brazos County sheriff’s offices and DPS.

College Station police identify a local man who is accused of eluding officers in a stolen car on Saturday.

According to CSPD tweets, 33 year old Matthew Jarrett was possibly armed when he fled on foot in College Station’s Edelweiss neighborhood.

CSPD identified the driver and released a photo, “in case he appeared as/after we scaled back our presence.”

According to online records, Jarrett was released from the Brazos County jail March 12 on bonds totaling $60,000 dollars. That was following his arrest March 4 on local charges that included two burglaries of a habitation, one vehicle burglary, and three drug charges.

According to online court records, Jarrett is awaiting four trials in Brazos County courts; charging him with the burglary of two homes in March 2020, possessing a controlled substance in March 2020, possessing marijuana in March 2020 and December 2019, and driving without a license in May 2021.

CSPD officer Tristen Lopez tells WTAW News the chase started in Navasota. CSPD was notified as the pursuit approached College Station.

Lopez says the stolen vehicle, a black SUV, was stolen in College Station Saturday afternoon between noon and 5 from the 1800 block of Holleman.
